Fabric specifications can look like random numbers and technical words.
GSM. Cotton. Poly-blend. Bio-washed. Pre-shrunk. Combed.
But each one affects how a garment feels, falls, breathes and performs.
This page explains what those terms actually mean — and why they matter.
What Is GSM?
GSM means Grams per Square Metre.
It measures the weight of a fabric. It does not automatically tell you whether a fabric is good or bad. Instead, it helps describe how light, substantial or structured the fabric may feel.
Usually thinner and lighter. Useful where maximum lightness is preferred, but it may feel less structured depending on the fabric.
A balance between breathability, durability and structure. Often suitable for everyday T-shirts.
Usually thicker and more structured. It can create a heavier silhouette but may also feel warmer.
Why 180 GSM?
For our confirmed Black Regular Tee, we use 180 GSM cotton.
We chose this weight because it sits in a useful middle ground. It has enough substance to give the T-shirt shape without making it unnecessarily heavy for everyday wear.
For Indian conditions, where clothing often needs to work across heat, indoor air-conditioning, travel and long periods of wear, balance matters.
Not too thin. Not unnecessarily heavy. 180 GSM gives us that balance.
100% Cotton
Cotton is a natural fibre widely used in everyday clothing because of its soft feel and breathability.
Compared with many synthetic-heavy fabrics, cotton generally allows better airflow and feels natural against the skin. That makes it a strong choice for everyday basics.
Our confirmed Black Regular Tee uses 100% cotton.
What Is Poly-Blend?
A poly-blend normally combines polyester with another fibre such as cotton.
Polyester can add properties such as quicker drying, wrinkle resistance or shape retention. That does not automatically make a poly-blend bad. It simply creates a different wearing experience.
For the product where we have confirmed the specification, Kadakkart chose 100% cotton because our priority was natural hand-feel, breathability and everyday comfort.
What Does Combed Cotton Mean?
Cotton fibres naturally vary in length. During combing, shorter fibres and impurities are removed before the yarn is made.
This helps create a smoother and more consistent yarn. The result can feel cleaner and softer compared with less refined cotton yarn.
Our confirmed Black Regular Tee uses combed cotton.
What Is Bio-Washing?
Bio-washing is a finishing process used on cotton fabric to help remove loose surface fibres.
This can improve the surface feel of the fabric and create a cleaner, smoother finish. It can also reduce the fuzzy appearance sometimes associated with untreated cotton.
Our confirmed Black Regular Tee receives a Bio-Silicon Wash. Why? Because the feel of a garment matters just as much as how it looks.
What Does Pre-Shrunk Mean?
Cotton can naturally change dimensions after washing.
Pre-shrinking treats the fabric before the finished garment reaches the customer, helping reduce significant shrinkage during normal care. It does not mean that absolutely no dimensional change can ever occur. Correct washing and drying still matter.
Our confirmed Black Regular Tee uses pre-shrunk fabric.
Why Double Stitching?
Garments experience repeated stress around seams during movement, washing and everyday use.
Double stitching adds another line of reinforcement to important construction areas. The purpose is simple: Better seam stability and stronger everyday construction.
Our confirmed Black Regular Tee uses double stitching.
What Does “No Fade” Mean?
Colour performance is influenced by the dyeing process, washing method, detergent, drying conditions and long-term use.
The confirmed specification supplied for our Black Regular Tee includes Follow the care guide.
For best colour care, we still recommend washing similar colours together, avoiding unnecessary bleaching and following the care instructions supplied with the product.
Breathability & Indian Weather
India does not have one single climate. Mumbai humidity is different from Delhi winter. Bengaluru evenings are different from Rajasthan summers.
So there is no single fabric weight that is perfect everywhere.
For general everyday use, we look for a balance between breathability + structure + comfort + durability.
This is one reason a mid-weight cotton fabric can make sense for an everyday T-shirt. It gives the garment enough presence without turning it into an unnecessarily heavy layer.
Fabric Is Only Part of Comfort.
Comfort is affected by more than fibre composition. It also depends on:
- GSM
- Fit
- Neckline
- Sleeve shape
- Seam construction
- Fabric finish
- Breathability
- How the garment is styled
- Weather and activity
A good T-shirt is not simply a fabric specification. It is how all those details work together.
Our Approach
We believe customers should understand what they are buying instead of being given meaningless technical buzzwords.
Where a specification is confirmed, we show it. Where it is not confirmed, we do not invent it.
Because small details create large perceptions.
